About the presenters
Ryan Hall, RPP MCIP, is a dedicated professional with a passion for community planning and sustainable housing. Hailing from Saskatoon, Ryan earned his undergraduate degree in Community Design with honours in Urban Design from Dalhousie University in 2006. Currently, he is pursuing his Executive Master’s of Business Administration from the Haskayne School of Business.
As a housing manager for Siksika Nation, Ryan has spearheaded groundbreaking initiatives to construct energy-efficient and climate-resilient housing. His innovative projects include leading Alberta’s first 3D concrete printed housing endeavor and pioneering energy-efficient housing through cutting-edge cleantech technologies. Ryan also teaches Introduction to Municipal Planning at the University of Alberta.
Before his impactful role with Siksika Nation, Ryan amassed 16 years of experience with the City of Calgary, where he focused on development policy for transit-oriented development and area redevelopment plans. He played a pivotal role in shaping Calgary’s urban landscape, particularly contributing to the Beltline ARP policy aimed at supporting the city’s new arena in the vibrant culture and entertainment district. In his final year with the City, he collaborated with the affordable housing team, shaping new incentives and providing crucial input into local area plan development.
Ian Arthur is the President and COO of nidus3D, Canada’s experts in 3D construction printing. Ian and nidus3D are addressing key frictions in the building sector to address the housing and affordability crisis in Canada. nidus3D built Canada’s first residentially permitted 3D printed homes, the first two and the first three storey printed structures in North America. Previously, Ian was the Member of Provincial Parliament for the riding of Kingston & the Islands serving in the 44th Legislature from 2018-2022. Ian studied International Development and Political studies at Trent University, and a Master’s in Public Administration from Queen’s University.
Mauricio Soto-Rubio is an Associate Professor of Architecture at the School of Architecture, Planning, and Landscape at the University of Calgary, Canada, where he teaches Building Science, Structures, Comprehensive Building Design Studios, and seminars related with technology. He is also the Director of the Centre of Building Construction and Innovation (CBCI). His research bridges the gap between architecture and civil engineering and includes construction technologies, materials, structures, and energy systems.
